Leaves That Are Green

I don't have an excessive amount to write about this song... it has a quick message about how fast life moves and changes and it's nice to listen to.

I was twenty-one years when I wrote this song.
I'm twenty-two now but I won't be for long
Time hurries on.
And the leaves that are green turn to brown,
And they wither with the wind,
And they crumble in your hand.

I like that he's 21, cause I am and it somehow connects me with how he's feeling, because the way you think and worry really change as you age. To quote a cliche - "time flies."

Once my heart was filled with the love of a girl.
I held her close, but she faded in the night
Like a poem I meant to write.

And the leaves that are green turn to brown,
And they wither with the wind,
And they crumble in your hand.

This would be the connection to Kathy - one of the major learning experiences of his life. Ties with Kathy's Song and Homeward Bound where he describes how his writing suffers and compares their relationship to his music/poetry.

I threw a pebble in a brook
And watched the ripples run away
And they never made a sound.
And the leaves that are green turned to brown,
And they wither with the wind,
And they crumble in your hand.

Again compare with Kathy's Song where he says he's "like the rain" with the imagery of the water and how it leaves its path, moving on and leaving only a trail behind it.

Hello, Hello, Hello,
Good-bye, Good-bye, Good-bye, Good-bye,
That's all there is.
And the leaves that are green turned to brown,
and they wither with the wind,
And they crumble in your hand.

Beginnings and endings. "That's all there is." The movement and natural processes of life... life, feelings, etc blossom and then they die.
