Bleeker Street

Ok, so I lied and there is one song I am looking at that is Kathyless, but I'm still wondering about the "shadows." When I listen to this song, it reminds me of all of these photographs and paintings I have studied in my art classes of bustling streets in Paris, London, New York. I don't actually know where Bleeker Street is (I'm guessing Greenwich)but it doesn't seem to matter. This is just a slice of life - a beautiful moment caught.

Fog's rolling in off the East River bank
Like a shroud it covers Bleeker Street
Fills the alley where men sleep
Hides the shepherd from the sheep

Pure poetry. Imagery of fog blanketing the street and changing it. Sung in almost a sleepy lullaby tone of voice.

Voices leaking from a sad cafe
Smiling faces try to understand
I saw a shadow touch a shadow's hand

On Bleeker Street

This reminds me so much of The Dangling Conversation where he is trying to figure what went wrong (trying to understand) and then the shadows of people trying to touch eachother.

A poet reads his crooked rhyme
Holy, holy is his sacrement
Thirty dollars pays your rent
On Bleeker Street

Even if it is not meant to be, this seems very self-portraitish... he's kind of on the outside, trying to get by and seeing how meaningful he is despite trying to get by.

I heard a church bell softly chime
In a melody sustainin'
It's a long road to Caanan
On Bleeker Street
Bleeker Street

If I knew what Caanan was then maybe I'd have a clue to what this means... but as of now, I just see the rythm and drive of the street falling in synch. He's somewhere he belongs.
